Give More Than Thanks This Season

Many of us have been blessed beyond anything we could have expected.  If we have a roof over our head and food to eat we should be praising God daily for these things.  This Thanksgiving Season we would like to encourage you to share these blessings with those in your community that are hurting.  You would be amazed (or maybe you wouldn't) to learn of the many needs that surround you.  FIA (Faith in Action) works hard to meet those needs.  Our church, along with many others, is trying to help fill their shelves so they comtinue this important work.  In the month of November we will be collecting items for FIA.  If you have question you can contact Amanda Johnson here at the church OR FIA directly.  The following is a list of items that the pantry is currently in need of:

-muffin/cake/baking mixes
 -canned or frozen meat
 -pumpkin pie ingredients
 -canned fruit
 -shampoo/conditioner
 -feminine products
 -laundry soap
 -condiments like mustard, mayo, ketchup
 -spaghetti sauce
 -chili beans
 -pancake mix
 -syrup
 -jelly
 -shaving items (razors & cream)
 -cleaning supplies
 -healthy snacks

Journey to the Manger - Dec. 19th at 7:00pm

The Christmas story will never change. The message of hope, joy and love is still offered today. In Journey to the Manger this meaning is discovered on a journey through time . . . the Depression Era, Italy during the Renaissance, the streets of England, a simple little church in Austria, the manger, and finally back to the 21st century . . . as the main character, Nathan, discovers the true meaning of Christmas.

Come hear the story of Larry and Phyllis West as they share their experience of living and serving in a "creative access" missions site.  It is sure to be eye opening and interesting.  This presentation is on a Thursday night so make a point of putting it on your calendar so that we can show them our support.

CROP WALK for hunger

Do you like to walk?  I do, but often I'm just too busy with life to walk.

Do you know there are 854 million people going to bed hungry every night?  They are people just like us, but because
of poverty they MUST walk to accomplish the most basic tasks:

They walk for food.
    They walk for water.
          They walk for firewood.
                They walk to escape violence.
                    They walk to seek shelter.
They walk to farm their fields.
                               They walk to find employment.
They walk to go to school.

We have an opportunity to help them by walking.  On the first Sunday of October each year, the Communities of Chelsea and
Dexter combine their efforts to WALK to Stop Hunger.  How can walking stop hunger?  We take pledges for our walk.

This event is organized by Church World Services (CWS) which was founded in 1946 and stands with impoverished peoples around the world
as they envision and fashion a better future.  Last year $17 million was raised to support hunger-fighting work, buying seeds, toold, digging wells, providing emergency medical supplies where needed.  This work is completed by supporting not only CWS, but by utilizing organizations such as Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) and Chelsea's FIA (Faith in Action).

That is why 15% of pledges immediately go to FIA and we can be direct 65% to NCM.  The balance will support CWS's outreach.

So, wanna take a walk?  Join me on October 4.  We'll be meeting at St. Paul's and starting the walk at 2:00.   You can walk 1 mile or 5 (I usually do the five).   There are rest and refreshment breaks along the way, You are welcome to take your pet for a walk (one year Niki got her picture in the Chelsea Standard).  All ages can walk, and we ALWAYS have fun.  It is a great time to fellowship with others in town.  You will need a pledge form which you can obtain at church Sunday.

Another way you can help....make a donation to someone who is walking.  You can even do so online @www.cropwalkonline.org by contributing to the Team: CCON.

Please help us show the community that the Chelsea Church of the Nazarene is a compassionate church who cares about those who are not as fortunate as we are.

Blessings

Ann Salyer
